October 2019

Hi EAA,

Where has the summer gone? It's hard to believe it is already October, the 1st frost has come & the leaves are changing. Please join us for our October Chapter 753 Gathering.

Last month we had an insightful presentation by Matt Groom, a Supervisory Air Traffic Control Specialist with the FAA at the Salt Lake City TRACON. It was fascinating to learn of the traffic flow and how to work better with ATC. Thanks so much Matt for a wonderful presentation.

This month we have a very special guest, Kris Nelson. We've all seen the young men & women in uniform at airshows and around the community. We are grateful for their service and interest in serving us and our country. Kris Nelson is the Deputy Commander of Cadets with the Phantom Squadron of the Civil Air Patrol (CAP) here in Utah County.

The CAP has 3 missions: Emergency Services, Aerospace Education & Cadet Programs. There is significant harmony with the EAA's focus on STEM education, Young Eagles, Air Academy, etc. for youth. We both want to help and encourage our youth to pursue education & aviation opportunities.

Please join us for an informative evening.

Saturday October 26, 2019 will be the final Young Eagles Rally of 2019 at the Spanish Fork Airport. The day typically begins at 8:00am with a pilot & ground crew briefing by Cris Child. Flights typically begin at 8:30am and continue until all of the youth have flown (usually 11:30 or 12:00). The smiles on the faces are priceless. Pilots and ground crew are always needed. Many hands make light work. Please join us. Please call or text Bruce Holt  at +1-801-810-6679 to volunteer or email him at: bruce@bruceholt.com

Thanks to all that participated in the Young Eagles flight at the Ephraim-Manti Airport. It was a huge success! The community was very supportive, has asked us to come back for another Young Eagle Rally in the spring. Of course, plenty of parents asked about how they can learn to fly. Looks like we'll be holding a Flying Start Rally for the parents in the spring as well. Thanks to Bruce Holt for coordinating everything.

The introduction to welding class was so much fun! Many thanks to EAA Technical Counselor Mike Bond for inviting us into his "man cave" full of amazing machines & tools & for letting us melt metal despite not really making very good welds by some us. Thanks, Mike!
